when we put the if-clause first, it’s clearer to separate the two clauses 
with a comma.
Exercise 109. Insert the appropriate form of the Subjunc-
tive Mood; comment on the chosen form and use of the Subjunc-
tive Mood:
1. The judge suggested that the accused (to release) for lack of 
strong evidence.
2. If the burglar (not to be frightened) by the dog barking, he 
(not to run) away.
3. I wish you (to let) me know you were coming. I (to meet) you.
4. If one of the witnesses (not to be injured) in the accident, he 
(to give) his evidence now.
5. The prosecutor demanded that the prisoner (to be sen-
tenced) to death.
6. If the scene of the crime (to examine) more thoroughly, the 
detective (to find) some evidence.
7. The public wished the accused (to acquit).
8. It is necessary that the accused (to inform) of having the 
right to defence.
9. The lawyer insisted that the defendant accused of having 
committed an act of theft (to release) on bail.
