Methods of metaphor translation
The article deals with the methods of metaphor translation. In language, a metaphor is defined as an indirect
comparison between two or more seemingly unrelated subjects that typically uses “is a” to join the subjects. Metaphor
brings forth the unique human ability to create and transmit ideas through the manipulation of language. As the tool of
showing of conceptual picture of the world, metaphor is always based on the national mentality. So when we plan to
translate it we can take account of the differences between concept-building in different languages. It has been argued
that metaphors can become a translation problem, since transferring them from one language and culture to another one
may be hampered by linguistic and cultural differences. A number of translation procedures for dealing with this
problem have been suggested, e.g., substitution, paraphrase, or deletion.
