assessment are compared. Assessment is a tool that can be used to measure current knowledge of learners.
There are some types of assessment such as traditional and alternative or authentic. Article describes how
these two types of assessment are used in distance education.

Резюме: В этой статье описаны основные особенности оценивания. Сравниваются такие
термины, как тестирование и оценка. Оценка- это инструмент, который можно использовать для
измерения текущих знаний учащихся. Есть несколько типов оценки, такие как традиционная и
альтернативная или аутентичная. В статье описывается, как эти два типа оценивания используются в
дистанционном обучении.

Introduction. Assessment play crucial role in teaching and learning processes and it indicates
whether the goals of teaching are met or not. Therefore, assessment is believed to be one of the
most challenging tasks for teachers in their teaching. In most cases learners do not consider learning
important if it is not assessed by teachers. It acts as indicator for students for what is worth learning.
In another words, assessment is cue that help learners what is important and useful in learning
experience and demonstrate how much time should be spend to the specific academic work.
Therefore, skillfully planed assessment can serve as an engine which promotes active learning in
learners [1]. Thus, the quality of assessment is strongly connected with the quality of learning.
In recent years the educational theory and practice have been changing and it involves change
in approaches that used in teaching and learning processes, including shift towards alternative
assessment from the traditional ones. Moreover, global pandemic put another challenging task for
educators, requiring them to implement effective assessment strategies in their teaching in order to
make learning process successful.
Therefore, this article first deals with the notion of assessment and then presents information
about traditional and alternative assessment. It then discusses the characteristics of each assessment
type. Finally, it describes how assessment can be implemented in online instruction.
