Challenges of professionally-oriented foreign language education for the students of agricultural sector

The article deals with the role of foreign language in an agrarian sector which is considered to contribute to the
economic development of the country. The analysis was done for definitions to English for Specific Purposes (ESP)
given by foreign scholars and for data considering information about the general and professionally-oriented foreign
language in non-English majoring universities which are indicated in the “Concept of Foreign Language Education of
the Republic of Kazakhstan”. In addition, some challenges encountered in training professionally-oriented foreign
language education for future specialists of agrarian industry is mentioned in the article. The author pays attention to the
basic and specific principles in the selection of subject content of foreign language education, developed by
Kazakhstani scholars in organizing the educational process and in order to solve some challenges mentioned in the
article, offers additional suggestions. While developing the curriculum in teaching English for Specific Purposes,
instructor should select materials and texts together with students with the aim of meeting their interests. The article
also gives brief information on the need for using Сognitive-Linguocultural Complex in professionally-oriented foreign
language education, on students’ self-educational activity and on implementing learning technologies in the educational
process.
