This article examines excerpts from the story of Gerold Belger based on the imaginative categories
of «state», «action», «appearance» using the comparative method. In translation, the image plays the
most important role, since the images are the only thing that remains in the reader's memory after he/she
has read the book. According to A. A. Leontiev, the perception of a work of art is an unconscious search
action in which we, perceiving an image, receive from it not only an image, but an image filled with
the author’s individual meaning [1, 200 p]. The article practically comprehends the linguistic means of
representing the figurative categories «state», «action», «appearance» and their translation techniques.
The material for analysis is the stories of Herold Belger. Herold Belger was not only a writer, but
also a translator, literary critic, prose writer, publicist. The peculiarity of this Kazakh writer of German
origin was that he was trilingual, and he knew Russian, German and Kazakh languages perfectly. All
his work reflects this knowledge of the three languages and cultures of the three great peoples.
Throughout his life, he wrote more than 60 books and had more than 2000 publications (articles, essays)
behind him [2, 12 p.]. In 2014, during the author's lifetime, a collection of selected works of the author
entitled «Izbrannye» was published, which included stories, essays, sketches, etudes. This collection
was translated into English after the death of the writer in 2016 by Simon Hollingsworth. The article
examines excerpts from his stories based on the imaginative categories of «state», «action»,
«appearance» with the help of a comparative method.
During the study of the categories «state», «action», «appearance» in 20 fragments of the story,
the following number of units was revealed (Fig. 1).
